Mother and daughter dead after murder-suicide near South MS hospital, authorities say
A mother and daughter died Thursday in an apparent murder-suicide in Picayune, authorities said.
Officers responded at 2:53 p.m. Thursday to Highland Community Hospital after the daughter, identified as Helena Malone, reported that she had shot her mother and needed help, Picayune Police said.
Malone then shot herself as officers arrived, police Lt. Aaron Grobe said. Authorities identified the mother as Helen Plaisance.
Emergency responders rushed Malone and Plaisance to the emergency room. Both died at the hospital, police said.
The shootings occurred inside a car near the emergency room drop-off, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Grobe said police are still investigating a motive.
“Please pray for the family, Highland Community Hospital staff and officers as they investigate this situation,” police said on Facebook.
