Mother, sister of murder victim share pain in exclusive interview

The mother of a young man who was shot in the west end is praying for justice.

"My son was a good child and whosoever done this to my child, I put them in God's hand, cause I'm a child of god," the mother of 33-year-old Marlon Lennox Mason, who identified herself as Catherine, told CBC News in an exclusive interview Thursday.

Mason was shot Wednesday night after attending a birthday party with friends. Police had responded to a home on Campbell Avenue, near Bloor Street and Symington Avenue, shortly after 10:30 p.m., after at least one gun shot was fired.

Mason was a father of five who came here from Grenada more than a decade ago. He was a volunteer at CIUT (89.5) FM, the University of Toronto's radio station.

In an interview, Mason's sister Rhonda said, "Today I'm standing here to say that my brother is gone in flesh, but in spirit he'll be with us and his legacy will live on with love."

The city's homicide unit is investigating.
