An 82-year-old male motorcyclist is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Clarington on Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The crash happened on the ramp from Highway 401 westbound to Highway 418 northbound in Clarington, the OPP said in a news release on Thursday night. Police said they were called to the area shortly before 4 p.m.

The motorcycle ended up in a grassy ditch, according to police. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police added.

The off-ramp from Highway 401 westbound to Highway 418 northbound was closed for about four hours following the crash, but has since reopened.

The OPP's Whitby detachment is urging anyone with information to come forward.
