Motorcyclist loses part of hand in collision with van

A motorcyclist lost part of his hand in a collision with a van west of Ottawa Monday evening.

Shortly before 8:20 p.m. the two vehicles collided on Highway 417 eastbound east of Panmure Road, south of the town of Kinburn, Ont., OPP said.

The 33-year-old motorcyclist suffered a "traumatic amputation" of part of his hand, as well as forearm fractures, said paramedics.

He was taken to the trauma centre at the Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus in serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

A section of Highway 417 at Panmure Road was closed Monday night after the collision.

OPP are investigating the crash.
