Motorhome explodes, sending camper flying after lighting stove, Missouri officials say

A motorhome exploded Sunday morning in Missouri after a camper lit a stove inside the vehicle, fire officials say.

Fire officials responded to a forest off 76 Highway in Barry County around 8:25 a.m., Central Crossing Fire Protection District said in a news release.

Officials discovered a person with first and second-degree burns as well as a severely damaged motorhome. Nearby vehicles were also damaged.

Photos show a large debris field in the clearing and a piece of debris apparently stuck in a tree. In other photos, the motorhome appears to be obliterated except for the driver’s cab.

Officials say the explosion was caused by a propane leak that ignited when the camper lit the stove. The explosion threw the person from the vehicle.

The victim was taken by life flight to a hospital in nearby Springfield. Officials have not released more information on the person’s condition.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Barry County is in southwest Missouri about an hour west of Branson.
