17 homes damaged in second Mt. Albert fire in 2 months

A fire that damaged 17 houses in Mt. Albert is being investigated by York Regional Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal.

The houses were damaged Friday in the second fire in just over a month in the new subdivision.

The fire broke out just before 6 p.m. Friday night, and at least eight under-construction houses were on fire within an hour. Ontario Fire Marshal investigators were onsite Saturday.

This is the same subdivision, near Ninth Line, where a fire engulfed five homes on March 10.

None of the homes were occupied and nobody has been reported injured.

Police said the fire moved quickly between the homes due to high wind.

While they're unsure what caused the fire, investigators worked Saturday to try to piece it together.

Criminal investigators from York police are reviewing surveillance video from the scene.
