Multicultural Association of Perth-Hurom cleaning up masks, litter in Huron-Perth parks

NORTH PERTH – Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron (MAPH) volunteers have been making rounds of parks in Huron-Perth cleaning up litter and more importantly, discarded masks.

Within 30 minutes of walking around Listowel Memorial Park on June 18, they had already found about 15 masks and a lot of other litter.

“Our parks are so beautiful,” said Gezahgn Wordofa, founder of the MAPH. “It’s not nice to find all these masks left where children play or dogs could eat them.”

Although the park itself looked immaculate when they arrived, soon after starting they found a wealth of rubbish hidden in the natural areas along the Maitland River bank.

Wordofa said 51 volunteers will be visiting parks in the region and cleaning up during a two-week blitz.
