Murphy's Community Centre renovations underway

Big Brothers Big Sisters of PEI is excited about extensive renovations now underway at Murphy's Community Centre in Charlottetown.

The mentor program is one of several groups that use the non-profit centre, says executive director Myron Yates.

"The big event for us is Bowl For Kids Sake in the first weekend of March and we use … well, pretty much all the downstairs of the facility for two days," he said.

The renovations will bring new decor and equipment to the centre's bowling lanes, including new pin-setters and scoring software.

"That's one of our two big fundraising events, so to have that renovated and to be able to accommodate a large group on that weekend, is really important to us," said Yates.

The centre's bowling lanes and bar will be closed for the month during the upgrades, but all other programming will take place as scheduled, according to officials.

The grand re-opening is expected to be marked by an event in the early fall.

Provincial Credit Union donated $35,000 toward the renovations.
