Mystery Toronto couple from proposal picture tracked down on Facebook

The power of the Internet proved itself once again this week after a post on Facebook got users searching for a Toronto couple whose proposal was captured on camera by a passerby.

Jenny Serwylo took the photo while visiting the Toronto Islands on Saturday. She writes that she just happened to be standing there so she snapped a few pictures. But adds she was hesitant to post a picture because she didn’t want to intrude on the private moment or ruin their own engagement announcement.

But after a few days, she decided to post it to the Facebook group “Bunz Trading Zone” which has over 45,000 members, “thinking there was a slim chance of it working,” she said in an email to Yahoo Canada News.

Within hours, the post had hundreds of comments and it wasn’t long before Toronto resident Laura Andrade tracked down the lucky couple.

Andrade said she took a screen shot of the post and shared it to her personal Facebook wall. Within an hour, a friend from high school who works with the wife-to-be’s sister contacted her.

“It was great to see so many people come together to try and find the mystery couple, and really made me realize there are great opportunities to have close, supportive communities here in this huge city,” Serwylo said.

The couple in the photo, identified as Milton Luna and Sandra Martinez, have reached out and said they were happy with the photo and “totally shocked by the response,” Serwylo added.

Luna told Yahoo Canada News that he doesn’t use Facebook so he had no idea all this was happening.

“We are very grateful for all the love people showed without even knowing us. It’s so crazy and exciting how much attention it got, but I guess that’s how us Torontonians are,” he said.
