N.L. reports 1 new case, 7 recoveries of COVID-19
Newfoundland and Labrador reported one new case of COVID-19 on Monday, its third straight day with a single new case of coronavirus.
The province also reported seven new recoveries, dropping the active caseload to five.
The new case is a woman in the Eastern Health region who is between 50 and 59 years old.
According to a Department of Health media release, the new case is travel-related. The woman is a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador who returned to the province from work in Alberta.
The Health Department said she has been self-isolating since arrival.
Contact tracing by public health is underway. Anyone considered a close contact has been advised to quarantine.
As of Monday's update 282 people have recovered. There have been four deaths since March.
In total, 50,871 people have been tested for the virus, with 189 people tested in the last day.
Haggie, Brazil spar over non-resident COVID-19 case
Opposition House leader David Brazil pushed Health Minister John Haggie on Monday, wanting to know more details about a recent COVID-19 case.
On Sunday, the Health Department confirmed a new case, in which a person who is not a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador was allowed to come to the province from Ontario.
"[People] want to know if the individual is coming here to do work as an essential worker that could be done by Newfoundland and Labradorians by minimizing the risk to people in this province," said Brazil during question period.
Haggie said specific information is protected under privacy regulations.
"The member opposite is trying to stir the pot and he is being a little bit disingenious with what he knows. As a minister of the Crown, I cannot divulge people's medical information.… He knows damn well where he's going," Haggie responded.
Haggie also noted that in a previous instance when someone came into the province for work and tested positive for COVID-19, it was disclosed in the daily media release.
