Researchers at the University of Oxford say they've achieved quantum teleportation using a powerful quantum supercomputer. The scientists linked two quantum processors that were six and a half feet apart using a "photonic network interface," as detailed in a paper published last week in the journal Nature. The team led by Oxford University Physics graduate student Dougal Main hopes its "breakthrough" could pave the way to even more powerful quantum computers and even lay the groundwork for a "qu
Researchers studying decades of earthquake data say they have found the first evidence that, in addition to spinning backward, Earth’s inner core in changing shape.
NASA’s two stuck astronauts may end up back on Earth a little sooner than planned. The space agency announced Tuesday that SpaceX will switch capsules for upcoming astronaut flights in order to bring Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams home in mid-March instead of late March or April. “Human spaceflight is full of unexpected challenges,” NASA’s commercial crew program manager Steve Stich said in a statement.
Maybe they shouldn’t have dug it up in the first place...
Experts say portions of the continent are pulling apart, creating the possibility that the Horn of Africa will become an island.
Quantum computing, long relegated to the realm of the theoretical, feels like it is back on the agenda as a potentially viable alternative to the expensive race for even more computing power. On the heels of some notable advancements in quantum chips and error correction (two key hurdles for quantum computing), a startup out of Boston called QuEra said on Tuesday that it has closed financing of $230 million from the likes of Google and SoftBank. The company will use the money to power its next stage of growth by building a “useful” fully quantum computer in the next three to five years.

After Elon Musk said SpaceX would rescue the “stranded” Starliner astronauts, NASA moved their return date up by two weeks — a slight adjustment to a plan that had already been in place for months.

Researchers with Ocearch, a nonprofit ocean animal research and education organization, recently caught and tagged the largest male white shark yet found by their group in the northwest Atlantic shark population.Scientists with Ocearch captured, tagged, and released the shark, dubbed “Contender,” on January 17.“At 13.8 feet long and weighing an estimated 1,653 pounds, Contender is a mature male now contributing to Ocearch’s mission of shark research and ocean conservation,” Ocearch said on its page for the shark. The tag attached to Contender “will provide valuable real-time data for approximately five years, helping us track his movements and understand his migration patterns. Additionally, we’ve collected important biological samples, including urogenital material, which are currently being analyzed,” Ocearch said. The average length for an adult male white shark is 11 to 13 feet, according to Smithsonian. Private Moon company Astrobotic’s mission has new life after finding a match made in heaven with its new customer, Astrolab, following NASA’s decision to pull the plug on the agency’s VIPER Moon rover.
NASA's Pandora satellite mission to document at least 20 known planets orbiting distant stars will start from SpaceX at its Starbase launch facility in Cameron County, Texas.
Europe’s Euclid space telescope has detected a rare halo of bright light around a nearby galaxy, astronomers reported Monday. The halo, known as an Einstein ring, encircles a galaxy 590 million light-years away, considered close by cosmic standards. Astronomers have known about this galaxy for more than a century and so were surprised when Euclid revealed the bright glowing ring, reported in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics.
By April this year, scientists will start to decide whether to send a mission to intercept an asteroid that may hit Earth in 2032.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A group of investors led by Elon Musk says it is offering more than $97 billion to buy OpenAI, escalating a legal dispute with the artificial intelligence company that Musk helped found.
The world-famous London museum will launch the programme in April, including a new gallery and a programme of youth-focused events.

If the U.S. were to proceed with all the tariffs it's threatening next month, there's no way they'd all be compounded atop each other into one astronomical total, right? Wrong, says the Trump administration. The White House said Tuesday that should all its trade actions take effect in March, it would indeed pile tariff on top of tariff, to reach the larger number of 50 per cent on some items. At the moment, the U.S. is threatening two actions: a worldwide tariff of 25 per cent on steel and aluminu
