National Book Foundation Announces the Longlist for the 2024 National Book Award for Fiction

Finalists will be announced on Oct. 1, and the winner will be revealed at the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony & Benefit Dinner on Nov. 20

The longlist for the 2024 National Book Award for Fiction has been revealed.

With the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony & Benefit Dinner only two months away, the National Book Foundation announced its 2024 Fiction Longlist on Friday, Sept. 13.

The 10 nominees include ‘Pemi Aguda's Ghostroots, Kaveh Akbar's Martyr!, Jessica Anthony's The Most, Karla Cornejo Villavicencio's Catalina, Percival Everett's James and Miranda July's All Fours.

Rounding out the list are Rachel Kushner's Creation Lake, Hisham Matar's My Friends, Sam Sax's Yr Dead and Tony Tulathimutte's Rejection.

Finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and the winner will be revealed at the National Book Foundation's event on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, publishers submitted 473 books for the 2024 National Book Award for Fiction. Among the nominees are Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts Fellows and past winners of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, the Booker Prize, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award.

Additional honors won by the nominees include the PEN/Faulkner Award, the PEN/Jean Stein Award, the Windham Campbell Prize, the O. Henry Award and the Whiting Award.

"The 2024 Fiction Longlist includes authors at all stages of their careers, and features three debut novels and one debut short story collection," adds the National Book Foundation.

This year's judges are Jamie Ford, Lauren Groff (Chair), Zeyn Joukhadar, Chawa Magaña and Reginald McKnight.
