National food drive highlights need among country's hungry

A new national campaign aims to bulk up supplies in the country's food banks as the charitable organizations head into summer.

The goal of the Every Plate Full food drive is to make sure every hungry Canadian has food to eat over the next few months.

In Windsor, the Salvation Army continues to use donations from its Christmas kettle drive to help supplement the groceries they give to 30 or 50 clients a day.

"We must give them protein in terms of the chicken, milk, eggs," said Susan Falodun, who works at Salvation Army. "We do that often. Even when we have to buy it, we do that."

The national food drive started Tuesday and runs until June 9. All donations will be matched by French's.
