Eganville -- North Algona Wilberforce Township will be offering satellite services in Golden Lake through the former Carl’s Auto building.
In his opening address at the August council meeting last Tuesday, Mayor James Brose explained the township is in the process of purchasing the former garage in Golden Lake, with the sale expected to be finalized at the end of the month.
“The township plans to utilize the office space in the building to provide satellite services a day or two a week for the convenience of Golden Lake and area residents,” he said. “It is hoped that tax payments, dog tags, garbage tags, and other services can be accommodated at the location.”
In his opening address, the mayor explained that the building will also be used to house public works equipment that was formerly accommodated in the Golden Lake Firehall.
“Stay tuned, there will be more information,” NAW CAO Andrew Sprunt told The Leader.
While details are still being finalized, he said the plan would be to keep both facilities open on days with services in Golden Lake. The township does not plan to hire any new staff.
“We have a large senior’s population in that area and travelling is difficult sometimes in the winter,” he said. “There are no stairs to enter the building, making it accessible.”
According to Mr. Sprunt, the ability to house equipment is also welcome.
“We’re looking forward to having the space and the facility for our public works, especially for winter operation,” he said
