NB Power evacuates Belledune station over possible hydrogen leak

NB Power evacuated the Belledune Generating Station on Friday morning after the discovery of a possible hydrogen leak.

The northern power station was cleared for 30 minutes.

The power company said in a statement that fire and emergency crews were called to the plant as a "safety precaution."

A statement from NB Power said there is no threat to the public or employee safety.

"The potential leak was detected through an alert system as the station was in the process of coming back online following a five-week scheduled maintenance outage," the company said.

NB Power is investigating the possible leak and is promising to release updates during the investigation.
