A NC company plans a 17,000-square foot family entertainment center in Rock Hill.
A new family entertainment center called ROAR is coming to The Thread in Rock Hill, Mayfair Hospitality announced this week.
The roughly 17,000-square-foot site will have a full kitchen and bar with activities such as duckpin bowling, mini golf, arcade games and live performances. Iconic themes from the roaring ‘20s era inspire the casual dining and craft cocktails.
ROAR will have indoor and outdoor space and a mezzanine. Simon Burgess with North Carolina-based Mayfair said the project is designed to bring the community together for a great time.
“The Thread perfectly combines historic charm with modern flair, creating a destination that aligns with our brand’s vision and excites our customers,” Burgess said.
The Thread is one of several downtown Rock Hill projects that formerly were long-time mill, manufacturing and warehouse spaces, now transformed into new restaurants, gathering spaces, apartments and retail.
Mayfair looks for sites with population growth and close proximity to universities.
The Thread is close to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, the largest South Carolina city within the Charlotte metro region. Growth in neighboring Fort Mill along with the nearby Rock Hill Sports & Event Center also were factors, according to the company.
”Winthrop University is within walking distance of The Thread, which by itself will serve as a driving force for our business,” said Joseph Correll with Mayfair.
Construction should start next month ahead of an August 2024 opening.
Based at 220 White St. in Rock Hill, The Thread is 400,000 square feet of former mill and warehouse space in the Knowledge Park district.
