NC man wins Powerball prize on a $3 ticket he bought online, lottery officials say
A North Carolina man won a Powerball prize on a $3 ticket he bought online, lottery officials said Tuesday.
Concord resident Michael Kindley matched four white balls and the red Powerball with his Quick Pick ticket to win $50,000 in the Jan. 14 drawing, according to a lottery news release. The amount doubled when the 2X Power Play multiplier hit, officials said.
After taxes, he’ll take home $71,259, according to the lottery.
Kindley beat odds of about 1 in 913,000 by matching four white balls and the red Powerball, according to the Powerball game page on NCLottery.com..
The odds of getting the 2X multiplier are 24 in 42, or about a 57% chance, lottery spokesman Jonathan LaRowe told The Charlotte Observer.
Kindley didn’t tell officials how he’ll spend his big win when he claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday, officials said. Kindley couldn’t be reached by The Charlotte Observer.
A $653 million jackpot is up for grabs in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, or $350.5 million in cash.
The Powerball jackpot carries odds of 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is among four lottery games in the state where players can buy their tickets at a retailer or through Online Play on NCLottery.com
The other games are Mega Millions, Lucky For Life and Carolina Cash 5.
