NDP leadership hopeful Niki Ashton shares 'bold' economic plan in Windsor

The NDP leadership race has made its way to Windsor.

Manitoba MP Niki Ashton stopped in the city to announce her "bold" economic plan, citing Windsor as an example of growing "inequality."

"It's a community that knows what it means to be up against corporations that have taken advantage of workers, this is a community where unions are strong and people fight back," she said. "But it's also a community where people realize we need government on our side."

The leadership hopeful praised local NDP MP's as the only people fighting to maintain a good relationship with the United States.

"They're the only voices in parliament that are calling the government out on putting out an agenda that's not standing up for workers and those that are struggling."

Ashton spoke by the demolished GM plant on Walker Road, describing the wreckage around her as another example of what bad trade deals have done to Canada.

"We need to take our country back, we need a federal government that's willing to stand up for us and that's why I'm running to become leader of the NDP and Prime Minister."
