During question period at the House of Commons in Ottawa on Monday, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh questioned when the federal government will “take real steps” to combat Islamophobia, one year after four members of a Muslim family were killed in what authorities have called a hate-motivated attack. In response, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino expressed his condolences on this anniversary while the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Ahmed Hussen outlined a number of steps that the federal government has taken to fight Islamophobia since then.
