Nearly 11-Foot Alligator Killed After Attacking Florida Woman Wading in Waist-Deep Water: Report

A nearly 11-foot-long alligator that bit a Florida woman Friday afternoon in Seminole County was captured and killed.

According to News 13, an unidentified woman in her 40s was bit on the arm while wading in waist-deep water in the Little Big Econ River. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to fully recover.

Authorities reportedly captured and killed the gator later that night, according to the news station.

In July 2013, 17-year-old Andrew Hudson was bitten on the back of the head and neck by a 9- to 10-foot alligator in the same area, according to WFTV. His injuries required 19 stitches and 12 staples.

Last month, an alligator attacked a Florida man in Bushnell, about an hour away from where a 2-year-old was killed by a gator at a Disney World resort the previous week.

There are several gator attacks in Florida each year, according to statistics from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. In 2015, there were 9 major attacks, including one that was fatal.
