Necco Wafers first came out in 1847, making them one of the oldest candy brands in existence, according to the Spangler Candy Company. They were discontinued in 2018, but they just couldn’t stay away, because the candies are coming back this summer.

If you’re not familiar with the candy, they come in disk shapes and in an assortment of flavors. You might recognize their wax paper rolls packaging with “Necco” across them, which is an acronym for New England Confectionary Company, the original company that made them.

Necco is coming back in the eight all-time favorite flavors: lemon (yellow), lime (green), orange (orange), clove (light purple), cinnamon (white), wintergreen (pink), licorice (dark grey), and chocolate (brown). Seven of them were designed to identically match the originals. The chocolate ones have a richer cocoa flavor this time around due to a minor change in the cooking process.

“Just when comfort food is experiencing a resurgence, Necco Wafers is back with that very kind of familiar, comfortable feeling we all seem to be craving,” Kirk Vashaw, CEO of Spangler Candy Company, said in a press release. “We are delighted to bring Necco Wafers back itno production and to share in their sweet return with fans old and new.”

The Necco Wafers will first begin to roll out in major drugstores and some grocery stores in June 2020, followed by more retailers in July 2020. From Walgreens to CVS to Kroger to Big Lots, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding them near you. Here’s the list of stores where you’ll be able to get them.

You have to love a throwback, especially when it comes to food, even if we only said goodbye to them 2 years ago.
