A neighborhood market debuts in Charlotte’s South End with organic foods and wines
A grocer selling organic foods and wines is making its North Carolina and Charlotte debut in South End.
Savi Provisions, a neighborhood organic food market, opened Thursday at 2151 Hawkins St., the Atlanta-based company said in a news release.
The store stocks locally sourced, organic foods and hard-to-find wines, as well as other staples.
Savi Provisions is part of the 16-story mixed-use office development called The Line. Sycamore Brewing, in a 10,000-square-foot space on the ground floor, opened in May. Mediterranean restaurant Chapter 6, the sixth restaurant by Jon and Kim Dressler’s Rare Roots Hospitality group in Charlotte.
The store is 3,600 square feet with a 1,200-square-foot patio, according to Savi Provisions.
Savi Provisions will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
And another Savi Provisions store is expected to open in the fall less than 2 miles away at 1124 South Mint St., according to the company’s website.
Savi Provisions also is opening a store by the end of October at 110 Corcoran St. in Durham.
Grocer competition
Savi Provision opens amid hefty competition of grocers in the Charlotte area.
Walmart, Harris Teeter and Food Lion dominate by market share, as Publix, Lowes Foods, Sprouts Farmers Market and Super G Mart open new stores.
Charlotte also has seen expansions by bodegas and corner stores like Savi Provisions, such as The Exchange, Rhino Market & Deli and Salted Melon Market & Eatery, also in South End.
