Neighbourhood distraught after 3-year-old Wallace Passos falls from 17th floor of condo

The neighbourhood near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West is shaken up after a three-year-old boy fell to his death from the 17th floor of a west-end condo building on Sunday.

Manfred Wietzmann stood at the foot of the condo on Sunday, looking up at the 17th floor. He lives in the building, and explains while the windows are large, there's only a small part that opens — just big enough for a child to fit through, he says.

Police were called to 3 Hickory Tree Crescent just after 2 p.m. on Sunday to find the injured boy. CPR was performed, and the boy was rushed to hospital but he did not survive.

Jamal Mohmaud was in a nearby park when it happened.

"We saw his mom. She was crying — very shocked and everything," he says.

A family friend identifies the young victim as Wallace Passos. The friend says he lived in the building with his parents and another sibling. Neighbours describe him as a happy toddler.

"We just see him around at the playground, he's always playing...every time I see him. He was always happy, and had that smile on his face," said one neighbour.

Toronto Police have interviewed several witnesses.
