Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours star Takaya Honda has shared that his character David Tanaka and on-screen husband Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) are about to be involved in a huge upcoming storyline.

In February, it was revealed that Hugh Jackman's wife Deborra-lee Furness would be returning to Ramsay Street to direct an episode where one of the soap's couples would become permanent carers of displaced children.

And now, thanks to Takaya's Instagram, we know that David and Aaron are the lucky pair.

Sharing a picture of himself and Matt on set with Deborra and child actor Ezra Justin, Takaya wrote: "Man, I feel so lucky!

"Over the last month Deborra-lee Furness was on set to direct @mattywilson @ezra.justin and I in a super important storyline about adoption and foster care.

"Deb really pushed us to draw every moment out of the script and establish this story with a solid foundation."

The actor added that it was "entertaining" for the cast to watch Deborra experience the speed at which Neighbours works.

"She certainly stepped up though," he added. "I can't wait to see the results and hear what you all think."

David went on to share that almost 40,000 children in Australia are in need of a permanent home usually due to abuse or neglect. He linked fans to the Adopt Change organisation.

The episode's subject matter is also extremely close to Deborra's heart as she and Jackman adopted their two children.

Speaking about the episode earlier this year, Deborra said: "I am thrilled to be collaborating with the team at Neighbours to direct these episodes and tell a story that is not often represented in mainstream media.

"To have an iconic television institution like Neighbours joining the conversation and reflecting the lives of so many Australian children is extremely powerful.

"Awareness is the essential first step in creating a positive shift in both culture and policy towards permanent solutions."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
