Nejib Belhaj-Chtioui trial set for 2016

The trial on terrorism-related charges for Nejib Belhaj-Chtioui has been set for April 25, 2016.

The 36-year-old was met by the Quebec provincial police’s special service for investigating extremist threats at Montreal-Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport after he disembarked from a flight from Tunisia in December 2014.

According to the warrant issued for his arrest, Belhaj-Chtioui is alleged to have transmitted information and committed acts that gave investigators reason to believe could be linked to terrorist activities, between May 13 and May 20, 2011.

In January, a judge refused to release Belhaj-Chtioui on bail. He's expected to return before Quebec Superior Court at the end of this month to have that decision reversed.

He remains incarcerated.
