Neknomination online drinking game raises campus concerns

An online drinking game called Neknomination in which participants chug large amounts of alcohol, post the video online and then challenge others to do the same, is raising concerns at universities across B.C.

Last week in Ireland two young men died in incidents related to the drinking game.

Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C., has already issued a warning about the dangers after it discovered some students were taking part, according to the dean of students Christine Adams.

"We really just wanted to nip this in the bud. We saw this move across the country in the last couple of days and when it got here we realized that we had an opportunity to let our students know that our primary concern is for their safety."

There are reports of students from Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria also getting involved in the activity. And last week concerns about the online drinking game were also raised by schools in New Brunswick.
