Neon donation boxes at CCCA?

Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA) is considering a suggestion to paint the donation boxes at the trail systems a brighter colour to increase the number of donations.

Vice chair Lori Baldwin Sands, representing the City of St. Thomas, made the suggestion at a virtual board meeting on Thursday, March 11.

Ms. Baldwin Sands said there had been an increase in usage from the trail usage during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, this did not reflect in the donation amount to the conservation authority.

She noticed on her several trips out to the trail system that the boxes are painted “traffic coloured yellow, which quite frankly, disappear.”

“I’m recommending that when these are being painted again, that a bright neon colour be applied to the donation boxes.”

She added that she herself is a frequent user of these trails, and that the new colouration would help them stand out. “The number of people I see bypass those boxes on every single trail that I go to is amazing.”

CCCA chair Rick Cerna said it was a good idea, and noted trail usage has been up substantially.
