Netflix Considering ‘Rhythm + Flow’ Live Finale As It Eyes More Event Programming
The second season finale of music series Rhythm + Flow could be live as part of Netflix’s new push into live programming.
The second season of the competition series, which is expected to air later this year, comes four years after the first and will feature new judges DJ Khaled, Ludacris and Latto with Eminem as a special guest.

Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series, Netflix, said that it is considering its options when it comes to a live finale.
“Rhythm + Flow season two, down the road, I can see the finale perhaps being live or maybe we’ll try it in other ways. But I’m excited about it. I think live drives a lot of conversation,” he said.
The news comes as part of a major new push into live that will kick off after it acquired the rights to air live WWE wrestling. Other live experiments include the live Love Is Blind reunion special and Chris Rock’s comedy special.
The SAG Awards will also air live on Netflix in February.
“I think live is a terrific tool in terms of expanding the portfolio, it’s applicable to, frankly, all the content genres that we have. The hope is, as we get more attuned to what people are responding to, we’ll have a better sense of the bigger eventized moments that we can make live,” Riegg added.
It’s no secret that Netflix is looking for more big unscripted competition series, particularly in the music and entertainment space and live plays into this.
“I came from ABC and NBC and you have series, whether it’s The Voice or Dancing with The Stars that are live. We all remember the Felix Baumgartner space jump or Nik Wallenda crossing the Grand Canyon. I think we have the opportunity to tap into that sort of eventized programming,” he added.
