Netflix signs deal to offer Disney movies in Canada

Disney has signed a deal to bring its catalogue of upcoming films to Canadian Netflix users starting next year.

Netflix Inc. and The Walt Disney Studios announced a licensing agreement Thursday that includes live action movies, Pixar computer animated movies, conventional animated movies, superhero movies from Marvel and Lucasfilm, in addition to Disneynature and DreamWorks movies.

New titles will appear on the service about eight months after appearing in studios. A spokesperson for Disney told CBC News that Disney's extensive back catalog of older titles isn't included. "This agreement includes new releases only, beginning with those that will hit theatres in 2015," she said. "It does not include Disney library titles."

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Netflix has grown quickly in Canada since launching in 2010. The company doesn't disclose Canadian-specific numbers, but overall has 48 million customers in 40 countries around the world.
