Netflix reality series Terrace House has cancelled the remainder of its current season, Tokyo 2019-2020, following the death of cast member Hana Kimura, aged 22.

The star, who was also a pro-wrestler, was found to have passed away over the weekend, though no official cause of death has been confirmed.

Netflix has now revealed that the rest of the current season of the show, which had been airing exclusively in Japan and had previously been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, has now been axed.

"Regarding Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020, we have decided to cancel the production," the show's official Twitter said in a statement (translated via Radio Times). "We take this issue very seriously and would like to continue to take sincere efforts in the future."

While it is unclear whether the show had been axed permanently, Netflix has since told the BBC that they had "no current plans to take down the latest season of this incredibly loved show".

Kimura had joined the show for the now-cancelled season, though had issued a series of social media posts prior to her death suggesting that she had been cyber-bullied.

Terrace House follows a group of six young people in a house in Japan, who go about their daily lives while commentary is provided.
