The gunman was wounded after resisting arrest, and was being treated in hospital, the Investigative Committee law enforcement agency said in a statement.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Netflix’s “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” combined with Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” to sweep top series honors at the Sunday’s Emmy Awards, a first for streaming services that cemented their rise to prominence in the television industry. China's sweeping regulatory crackdown of recent months does not aim to rein in the country's private enterprises or decouple from the United States or international financial markets, a top Chinese regulatory official told Wall Street leaders last week. The actions instead intend to strengthen the regulation of consumer-facing platform companies with a key role in promoting "common prosperity", or easing wealth inequality, China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) Vice Chairman Fang Xinghai said at a private gathering, according to attendees.
The suspected gunman, an 18-year-old student, has been arrested.View on euronews
MONTREAL (Reuters) -Canadians went to the polls on Monday as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared likely to lose his bid for a parliamentary majority after a tough campaign that may have dashed his Liberal Party's hopes for a convincing win. Trudeau heads a minority government that relies on the support of other parties to pass legislation.

Paul McLauchlin says as president of the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, he'd expect to spend all of his time talking about agriculture. But another topic is front of mind (he's had five meetings about it this week) — internet access. "There's literally people in this province that do not have access to any broadband," McLauchlin said. The RMA has listed rural broadband access as its first priority for federal candidates to address. It's listed as serious of a concern as implementing drought an
OK, it definitely wasn’t the Pandemmys, or the Zoomemmys, or whatever you want to call last year’s virtual Emmy ceremony — with everyone at home, and visitors in hazmat suits showing up to bestow awards. This year was different — defiantly so. People were together, and not even in masks (except during commercial breaks.) There were plenty of hugs and kisses — in fact, quipped presenter Seth Rogen, he had just been sneezed in the face by Paul Bettany. (Guests had to present vaccine proof and nega

The Victoria-based club leads the CPL standings by four points over Cavalry FC, w
BERLIN (AP) — German voters elect a new parliament on Sept. 26, a vote that will determine who succeeds Chancellor Angela Merkel after her 16 years in power. While it should be clear within hours of the polls closing how the parties fared, it may take longer to find out who the next chancellor will be — and what the political complexion of his or her government will be. Here's a look at how the process works. WHO CAN VOTE, AND WHEN? German citizens age 18 and above are entitled to vote and to be
A British Columbia health authority says it is facing a severe nursing shortage in a northern city as staff face criticism from COVID-19 protesters. Northern Health, which covers the northern half of B.C., says that other nurses are being diverted to the emergency room, which is affecting care in other wards. That means in some areas of the hospital, there may only be one nurse available on a shift, according to the authority. The health authority described the shortage as 'troubling,' and said

CIUDAD ACUÑA, Mexico (Reuters) -A U.S. law enforcement officer on horseback wielded what appeared to be a lariat, whipping it close to the face of a man wading in the Rio Grande carrying a plastic bag of food. It was just one desperate moment in a few hours of such scenes along the Rio Grande on Sunday. Hundreds of Haitian migrants who have been camping under a bridge in the Texas town of Del Rio were trying to bring food and other supplies from Ciudad Acuña in the Mexican state of Coahuila, while U.S. officials have stepped up security at the border and started flying migrants out of the area, some to Haiti.

The Calgary Marathon returned to an in-person format Sunday, as more than 4,200 racers laced up for race day. "It's been a long road to get here, no pun intended," said Kirsten Fleming, executive director of Run Calgary. "Even though it looks a lot different with everybody being socially distanced and not being able to high-five people … you could still feel that positive energy of everybody being together again." She says up to the day of the event there was trepidation about whether or not the
TORONTO — Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole delivered his starkest plea yet for people not to split the vote on the right by picking the People's Party of Canada on what was his last day before polls open. Conservatives have been ramping up their warnings in recent days against voters going over to Maxime Bernier's more populist party, in a campaign marked by a close race between the Tories and Liberals. In polls and on the ground, the PPC appears to be gaining steam over its opposition to mandat
DEL RIO, Texas (AP) — The U.S. flew Haitians camped in a Texas border town back to their homeland Sunday and tried blocking others from crossing the border from Mexico in a massive show of force that signaled the beginning of what could be one of America's swiftest, large-scale expulsions of migrants or refugees in decades. More than 320 migrants arrived in Port-au-Prince on three flights, and Haiti said six flights were expected Tuesday. In all, U.S. authorities moved to expel many of the more
