All levels of government need to come together to help solve flood-related infrastructure issues on Manitoba's largest First Nation, community leaders said. "There is serious work to do," William Sutherland, Peguis First Nation's director of emergency management, said in an interview Sunday as the flood-battered community north of Winnipeg was toiling to again try and shore up structures, roads and homes as water levels rise from recent rainfall. "There is a lot of infrastructure work that needs
For the first time, a free shuttle bus service will ferry nature lovers to some of the most popular spots in Gatineau Park during the summer. Saturday marked the start of the pilot project, which will run every weekend until Aug. 28. Regular shuttles have operated every fall for a three-week period, and that will still continue. "We're making Gatineau Park more accessible, more equitable for people who either don't own a private car or don't have access to one or don't want to drive," said Tobi
Conservation groups have been doing a lot of work lately to give people virtual access to important ecological areas in the Maritimes, but if that's given you the itch to go in person this summer, there are special precautions to take, according to two people who make a living promoting outdoor adventures. "These are not the places we want to start going bushwhacking," said Jan-Sebastian LaPierre, of Dartmouth-based marketing company A For Adventure. You probably should not go with a big group,
With the price of gas where it is, increasing credit card fees are making selling gas unsustainable for some retailers on P.E.I., says the Convenience Industry Council of Canada. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian missiles hit the Ukrainian capital early Sunday, striking at least two residential buildings and killing one person, the mayor of Kyiv said. The attack came as Western leaders meeting in Europe this week prepared to reaffirm their support for Ukraine and condemnation of Russia. Associated Press journalists in Kyiv saw rescue services battling flames and rescuing civilians. The strikes also damaged a nearby kindergarten, where a crater pocked the courtyard. Ukrainian

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis celebrated families Saturday and urged them to shun “selfish” decisions that are indifferent to life as he closed out a big Vatican rally a day after the U.S. Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion. Francis didn’t refer to the ruling or explicitly mention abortion in his homily. But he used the buzzwords he has throughout his papacy about the need to defend families and to condemn a “culture of waste” that he believes is behind the societal acceptanc

NEW YORK (AP) — Parades celebrating LGBTQ pride kick off in some of America's biggest cities Sunday amid new fears about the potential erosion of freedoms won through decades of activism. The annual marches in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and elsewhere take place just two days after one conservative justice on the Supreme Court signaled, in a ruling on abortion, that the court should reconsider the right to same-sex marriage recognized in 2015. That warning shot came after a year of legislat

Members of the Ontario Coalition for Abortion Clinics carried a large coat hanger in the march to demonstrate opposition to the decision on Friday that strips away constitutional protections for abortion. The coalition believes women should have the right to control their own bodies. The coat hanger sym
Serena Richard says she can see some similarities between herself and the character Peter Pan. But unlike the boy who never grew up, she did. Disney was a big part of Richard's childhood. She would watch movies such as Beauty and the Beast "over and over again" with her family on Sunday evenings. "When you're a kid, everything is magical," she said. "But then when you start to grow up, you're trying to kind of find your way, transitioning from like a young adult to an adult," she said. It wasn't

The fire department received a call about the fire inside a recycling company building at 10930 Sherbrooke Street East around 10:30 a.m. Three workers were inside at the time and got out safely.
