After a late start to the season, some sunflower growers on P.E.I. are optimistic about what lies ahead for the beloved flower. Crystal Burke-Cheverie, who helps run Fortune Bridge Farms in Souris, P.E.I., says dry weather over the last month was making it difficult for sunflowers to bloom. However, recent rain means flowers are now in bloom and the demand is high, Burke-Cheverie said. "They seem to be really popular all over the Island. Everyone you talk to likes sunflowers," she said. Saint John flights are being cut to only two per day, while Fredericton's has six daily flights and Moncton five, Duplisea said. "Air Canada should not be picking winners [and] losers in New Brunswick with regards to local economies and airports," he wrote in a letter this week to Air Canada president Michael Rou

He'd hoped to perform again, but the international festival that had been running since 2005 was discontinued after the 2016 edition due to a lack of funding and volunteers. However, Puppets Up! has returned this weekend — and Holden will be there once again. After performing across North America, Holden said he was happy to return to Almonte, a town about 5
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney condemned a controversial prize-winning essay that's been criticized for being sexist and racist during his provincewide radio call-in program, but also appeared to downplay the controversy it generated. The topic was the first that host Wayne Nelson raised during Saturday's show on CHQR and CHED, and Kenney responded there was "clearly a breakdown" in how the judges assessed the essays, adding they "screwed up." Nelson had noted in the opening of the program that wh

Rishi Sunak, one of two candidates seeking to become Britain's next prime minister, said Friday's attack on author Salman Rushdie should serve as a wake-up call to the West over Iran, the Sunday Telegraph reported. Indian-born author Rushdie, who spent years in hiding after Iran urged Muslims to kill him over his novel "The Satanic Verses", was stabbed in the neck and torso on stage at a lecture in New York state. After hours of surgery, Rushdie was on a ventilator and unable to speak as of Friday evening.
A lawyer for former U.S. President Donald Trump signed a statement in June that all classified files at his Florida estate had been returned. This week, over 25 boxes of documents — many top secret — were seized by the FBI, indicating that the Trump team was less than forthcoming about the sensitive material. As Jennifer Johnson reports, Americans are wondering if Trump will face any consequences, including criminal charges.
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador officials say the state of emergency called last weekend because of raging wildfires in the centre of the province will end on Saturday. Wildfire behaviour, air quality and weather conditions were all encouraging enough to support the decision, the Department of Justice and Public Safety said Friday in a news release. It's not what you'd expect to find on the 29th floor of a Toronto office building. Instead of cubicles, a complex arrangement of lasers, mirrors and optical fibres run from floor to ceiling, making up the quantum computer called Borealis. And Borealis recently hit a milestone by solving a colossal math problem. "If we ran [the problem] on the most powerful supercomputer out there, it would take 9,000 years. For Borealis, it takes less than a second, which is quite incredible," says Christian Wee
BRIGHTON, England (AP) — Nick Pope conjured two fine saves and Kieran Trippier made a goal-line clearance as Newcastle's two England internationals helped the team grind out a 0-0 draw at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday. Pope racked up a second straight clean sheet since joining Newcastle from relegated Burnley, thwarting both Adam Lallana and Solly March at the Amex Stadium. March thought he had scored with a low shot through a crowd of players in the first half, only for Trippier to
