Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland criticized the Canadian Armed Forces' decision to appoint a general who provided a character reference for a soldier convicted of sexual assault to a role co-ordinating efforts to change the military's culture. Maj.-Gen. Peter Dawe was removed from the role after outrage from observers.
