Baker Mayfield announces he's taking a break from social media

Baker Mayfield has made an important decision about his life: he's getting off social media.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback announced in an Instagram story that he's decided to take a break from social media "for the foreseeable future."

"Gotta do what's best to focus one me, my family and loved ones," Mayfield wrote. "Appreciate all the support. Time to get right."

If you've been following Mayfield's Twitter account, this announcement may not have come as a surprise. On Sunday, he tweeted his congratulations to all the teams moving on in the NFL playoffs, and then followed it with a tweet calling social media "toxic."

That tweet came a few weeks after Mayfield tweeted about "clickbait" articles regarding his relationship with head coach Kevin Stefanski, declaring "I'm not your puppet."

Mayfield's wife, Emily, has taken heat for her activities on social media over the past year. She's posted (and then deleted) criticisms of Mayfield's teammates in an effort to support her husband, who struggled during the season with injuries.

Near the end of the season, Mayfield also discussed receiving death threats on social media, something he said his wife also encounters. He told the media at the time that he doesn't take them seriously, and don't believe they're something the team should be concerned about.

It doesn't appear that Mayfield is deleting any of his social media accounts (at least not yet), he's just planning on staying radio silent for awhile. Will he be able to resist the siren call of Twitter for the entirety of the offseason? We'll have to wait and see.
