NHL legend Paul Coffey inspires Regina students to become champions
If there's someone you want talking about what it's like to be a champion, it's Paul Coffey.
The four-time Stanley Cup winner was doing just that on Friday in Regina when he spoke to students and staff at Martin Academy about what it takes to be a champion.
The NHL great's message to the students was that they must dedicate themselves to their goal in life.
"Just work hard and have fun," said the Edmonton Oilers legend, who also played with eight other teams. "All the other stuff, it doesn't really matter, just don't waste a second, don't waste anybody else's time. If you are committed, just go out there and do your best."
In his speech to the students, Coffey laughed, telling the story of his mother saying to him, "sometimes, your best isn't good enough."
Coffey's best helped him rank second all-time among NHL defencemen in all scoring categories.
"Kids are the future of what's going to happen in this world," he said. "Anytime you can come in and try and intrigue them and give them the odd message, that's what it's all about."
He was also in Regina to appear at the Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction later that night.
