One could suggest that Edmonton Oilers fans are becoming, uh, pissy after their team dropped another decision at home Thursday evening.

As the Florida Panthers led 5-0 during the second period, Oilers fans became fed up and started tossing jerseys onto the ice in protest of the team’s performance. Florida added another goal, securing a 6-0 victory.

Edmonton has now dropped seven consecutive games with its last victory occurring on Dec. 18 against the expansion Seattle Kraken.

It isn’t merely bad luck. The counting stats add to the portrait of a team in complete disarray.

Frustration continues to mount for Oilers players, too, especially at the top of the roster. Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl and reporter Jim Matheson entered a heated exchange Tuesday, where Draisaitl was asked why he was “being so pissy” after providing a non-answer to a question about the team’s losing streak.

Connor McDavid, meanwhile, has gone goalless in 8 straight home games for the first time since his rookie campaign.

“This is a true test of leadership,” Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse said post-game.

“Getting out of this is what is going to make our team better. There's no excuse, you've got to show up every day with your hard hat on.”

Maybe Nurse is right. It couldn’t possibly be going any worse for the Oilers and short of firing head coach Dave Tippett, there aren’t any quick fixes readily available. In the meantime, the Oilers’ passionate fan base is going to get creative about voicing their palpable disgust.
