Nicaraguan dog with damaged snout now allowed to fly to Ottawa

An Ottawa couple is moving forward with a plan to bring a Nicaraguan mixed beagle that had part of its face chopped off to Canada for surgery after United Airline reversed its decision that the dog was too injured to fly.

Graham Thatcher, a veterinarian, and his partner Andrea White first found out about Tyson, whose snout was cut with a machete, in an Instagram photo.

The couple booked tickets to and from Managua, Nicaragua, and made sure Tyson had all the required shots and paperwork to come to Canada, but on Friday the airline said it wasn't comfortable transporting the dog.

American Airlines also refused to fly the dog.

The cut is so severe you can see into Tyson's mouth and nasal passage when he chews.

Now United Airlines has offered to pay for their flights from Managua, Nicaragua to Houston, saying they would make an exception to allow Tyson to travel.

White will pick up Tyson as early as next week. She will travel the rest of the way from Houston to Ottawa on Air Canada.

Thatcher is performing the operation for free.
