Nicholas Pryor, “General Hospital” and “Port Charles” Alum, Dies at 89 From Cancer

The prolific TV and film actor died on Oct. 7 from cancer

Veteran TV and film actor Nicholas Pryor has died. He was 89.

The star died on Monday, Oct. 7 from cancer, his publicist confirmed to PEOPLE. He was best known for portraying Professor Victor Collins on General Hospital before reprising the role on the spinoff Port Charles from 1997 to 2002 for more than 300 episodes.

Jon Lindstrom, who played Pryor’s onscreen son Kevin on Port Charles, shared a statement addressing Pryor’s death on Instagram on Tuesday, Oct. 8, where he spotlighted the late actor's professional accomplishments over the years, including his appearances in the 1983 comedy Risky Business, the 1987 crime drama Less Than Zero and the 1978 horror sequel Damien: Omen II.

“It is my solemn task to announce the passing of the great Nicholas Pryor,” he wrote in the caption alongside a black and white image of Pryor. “Nick was an Actor’s actor, and an exceptional friend. He passed on October 7, 2024, surrounded by loving family.”

“Nick may be best known for his role as the father of #Tom Cruise in #RiskyBusiness, or as the same to #RobertDowneyJr in #LessThanZero,” Lindstrom continued. “He shared the screen with the likes of #Jack Nicholson #Kurt Russell #Ewan McGregor Too many to name really. He starred on #Broadway and delivered terrific work in Film and TV for over 60 years.”

As talented and prolific as Pryor was as an artist, he was also “one of the best” friends Lindstrom ever had, the actor also explained.

“He was a mentor, a sounding board, a trusted confidant, and even a father-figure beyond, yes, playing my own father on #GH and #PortCharles," Lindstrom added. "And he was one of the funniest people could you cold hope to spend time with over a bottle of good wine and a great meal."

Pryor is survived by his wife Christina, daughter Stacey and grandchildren Gus and Avril.
