Nick Fontanelli, accused of killing his fiancée, has found a lawyer to represent him.

Fontanelli's previous lawyer withdrew from the case due to a possible conflict of interest.

The 23-year-old man appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Monday afternoon. He will be represented by veteran defence lawyer Marc Labelle.

Fontanelli is accused of first-degree murder and of committing an indignity to a body in the death of Samantha Higgins.

Higgins and Fontanelli had a four-year-old daughter and an infant son together.

Higgins mother, Vanessa, and about a dozen supporters waited for three hours to be there for the two-minute-long hearing. Some of them wore T-shirts, the backs emblazoned with: "Justice for Samantha."

Higgins said it's been difficult to deal with all the court delays as Fontanelli searched for a new lawyer, but she said she plans to be there every step of the way.

"We're going to bring justice for Samantha," she said.

The case will return to court on March 29 for a pre-trial conference.
