Nighttime burglary in southeast Calgary prompts police warning

Police are reminding Calgarians to keep their doors locked at night after a house in Dover was robbed while its residents were asleep.

Sometime overnight between Wednesday and Thursday thieves entered the home in the 2600 block of Dovely Court S.E. through an unlocked door, police say.

They rummaged through several rooms in the house, taking cash and personal items.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police say it's important to lock windows and doors even in the warm weather.

Other tips for securing your home:

- Put inside lights on timers and install exterior motion lights near doors and windows.

- Lock all garage doors.

- Have neighbours collect mail and newspapers when you are away.

- Store important documents and valuables away from your home in a safety deposit box.
