Nintendo has once again surprise-announced and released a game like it's not a big deal – this time it was Kirby Fighters 2.

This Kirby sequel is a brand new entry in the series for the Switch console and you can find it on the Nintendo eShop right now, going for £17.99

Nintendo is billing Kirby Fighters 2 as a multiplayer "kirby vs kirby vs kirby vs kirby" game, which lets you choose from a cast of Kirby’s, each one sporting one of its iconic copy abilities.

Fighters 2 adds a brand new Wrestler copy ability, which will let you punch your enemies into submission to be the last Kirby standing.

Nintendo released a trailer with the announcement, which you can watch below.

You can play online or locally with three other friends, playing as one of the 17 Kirbys or familiar foes of the series like King Dedede or Meta Knight.

Alongside the multiplayer aspect, there's also a story mode which will see you take on a number of battles Smash-Bros style until you finally make your way to fight Meta Knight and King Dedede.

The story mode, by the way, can also be played through with a friend co-operatively.

In case you didn't know, the first Kirby Fighters game came out in 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS so this release is extremely surprising.

The game was actually leaked first and then Nintendo announced and subsequently released it in a matter of days.

Nintendo has spoken about the future of the Kirby franchise on the Switch and it seems likely that Kirby Fighters 2 will be enough to bridge the gap in case the wait for the next mainline Kirby game on the Switch is far away from being announced.
