If you’re not familiar with the work of Dude Perfect and their more than 3 billion (yes, B for billion) views on YouTube, they’re an entertainment group that first came to fame in 2009 by making a really wild basketball shot from the top of Kyle Field, home of Texas A&M football.
It was fantastic then, just as their latest installment with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is terrific to watch now. Oh sure, many have claimed that they stage shots or take hundreds of reps to nail their stunts. But even if that’s so … what patience!
Suspend reality if you must. Or just sit back and enjoy the creativity, precision and hilarity. Have a look at Brees throwing footballs through twin oscillating hoops, hitting skeets (!) with balls and even drop-kicking a ball to knock a pylon off a very trusting bro’s noggin.
Who knew Brees could dropkick? Doug Flutie would be jealous.
If you watch the entire ep, you see head coach Sean Payton come join the whole gang, and more non-football games are introduced including a version of “Name That Tune” and some kind of chewing gum blind taste test for Payton, a noted Juicyfruit connoisseur (spoiler: the Dude Perfect dudes trick him).
It’s all fun, and yeah, they probably don’t accomplish all these tricks in single takes. But even if you believe that to be true, what about the trick that involved a bowling ball dropped on a guy’s chest if Brees does not make a crucial throw midway through the video? It only adds to the drama.
Not only that, but they perform these tricks at multiple locations, so it’s impressive on a production level, too.
If you get a chance, go back and watch some of their old episodes. Johnny Football even made a cameo back in the Kyle Field episode. Credit to these guys for building a brand so big that NFL superstars want in on it. It’s fun stuff that keeps you watching. Who knows what they’ll come up with next, or which star is on deck?
