Multiple arrests after SWAT response to Regina weapons call

Multiple people were arrested after a weapons call that led police to barricade the 700 block of Elphinstone Street Friday morning.

A SWAT team surrounded a home in the North Central neighbourhood. Six people were arrested, but it's not clear if all six are still in custody.

The incident started after an apparent assault on a male Thursday night. Officers were called to the Regina General Hospital at 10:05 p.m. CST after he went to the emergency room with injuries.

The Regina Police Service says it was determined that the male had been forcibly confined and assaulted.

The investigation led officers to a home Elphinstone Street, and they had information that indicated there were firearms inside. When police arrived, three males and a female came out and were taken into custody.

At 7:10 a.m. Friday, SWAT members deployed tear gas into the residence. A male and female then came out of the residence and were also taken into custody.

The police service says it expects to release more information regarding charges in the case as the investigation continues.
