North Huron council costs down nearly $15,000 due to pandemic

NORTH HURON – Township council costs were down nearly $15,000 in 2020, due in part to reduced activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 15, Director of Finance Donna White submitted a report on council remuneration and expenses for 2020.

The report, an annual requirement under the Municipal Act, shows salary and expenses paid to members of North Perth council last year totalled $85,484.74.

This amount includes annual honorariums, meeting allowances, travel and conference expenses.

This year, due to the reduced activities because of the pandemic, the township was able to put $14,885 into the reserve account for future use.

Reeve Bernie Bailey received a base salary of $10,814.27, meeting allowance of $3.727.24, travel expenses of $150.75, meal expenses of $48.63, conference and meeting registration expenses of $625.83, and accommodation expenses of $828.42 for a total of $16,195.14.

Payment for the rest of council was:

Trevor Seip: base $8,646, meetings $3,980.52, travel $52.68, meals $127.24, conference/meeting registration $625.83 and accommodations $468.76 for a total of $13,901.03;

Kevin Falconer: base $7,398.84, meetings $2,882.11, travel $170.20, meals $129.63, conference/meeting registration $717.41 and accommodations $536.55 for a total of $11,834.74;

Paul Heffer: base $7,398.84, meetings $2,860.44, travel $0, meals $0, conference/meeting registration $610.56 and accommodations $0 for a total of $10,869.84;

Richard McBurney: base $7,398.84, meetings $2,371.97, travel $20.35, meals $26.62, conference/meeting registration $717.41 and accommodations $536.55 for a total of $11,071.74;

Chris Palmer: base $7,398.84, meetings $2,080.32, travel $379.57, meals $15.14, conference/meeting registration $1,236.39 and accommodations $468.76 for a total of $11,579.02; and

Johanna Van Hittersum: base $7,398.84, meetings $2,362.03, travel $272.36, meals $0, conference/meeting registration $0 and accommodations $0 for a total of $10,033.23.
