North Korea has warned that any country that joins the United States in military action against Pyongyang will be subject to a nuclear attack.

The stark comments were included in the prepared notes for a United Nations speech by North Korean deputy ambassador Kim In Ryong, but were not read out.

“As long as one does not take part in the US military actions against the DPRK [North Korea], we have no intention to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against any other country,” the notes said.

“The entire US mainland is within our firing range and if the US dares to invade our sacred territory even an inch it will not escape our severe punishment in any part of the globe,” it added.

Kim did tell the UN General Assembly committee that “unless hostile policy and the nuclear threat of the US is thoroughly eradicated, we will never put our nuclear weapons and ballistic rockets on the negotiation table under any circumstance.”

The statement comes after the UK government put forward a Europe-wide crackdown on North Korea, including a ban on EU investment into North Korea.

The proposals, which also include cutting off the export of oil to the country, are under consideration in Luxembourg, but are expected to be approved by ministers.

Foreign secretary Boris Johnson said North Korea poses “an unacceptable threat to the international community”.

“Maximising diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea is the most effective way to pressure Pyongyang to halt its illegal and aggressive actions,” he said.

Tensions have escalated sharply between the United States and North Korea in recent months after Pyonyang tested its most powerful nuclear weapon to date.

Donald Trump then issued a bellicose speech at the United Nations in which he threatened to destroy North Korea, and dubbed Kim Jong-un ‘Rocket Man’.

Earlier in the month, Trump said that any agreements made by previously US governments with the rogue state had been violated “before the ink was dry”.

“Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid…” he wrote.

Yesterday, Hillary Clinton said she fears that no one will be able to stop Donald Trump from launching a nuclear attack amid escalating tensions with North Korea.

The Democrat, who lost to the Republican in a shock defeat in the US election last year, said there should be stricter processes in place given there was “such potential for miscalculation.”

It comes a week after the former First Lady described Trump as the “most dangerous president in US history“. She added that the “whole world should be concerned” by him.
