We The North, the Raptors slogan, mocked by the Portland Trail Blazers

Who the north?

The Toronto Raptors marketing campaign to brand themselves as the NBA's northern success story hit a snag this week. The team not only lost to the Trail Blazers 97-102 on Tuesday night, the Portland team torched Toronto on Twitter too, pointing out they are not truly "the north."

Oregon's largest city is 45.52 degrees latitude, which is further north than Toronto, which clocks in at 43.70 degrees.

The Trail Blazers' pointed this out on Twitter after beating the Raptors on Tuesday.

Directly after that, the Minnesota Timberwolves added their two cents, pointing out that Minneapolis, where they play, is further north than Toronto as well.

In addition to being north of Toronto geographically, Portland is also north of Toronto in the standings, with two more wins than the Raptors to top the western conference. The Timberwolves meanwhile only have five wins total at this point in the season and are way south in the standings.

The Raptors continue their West Coast road trip with a visit to northern California to play the Golden State Warriors.

Correction : This article previously stated Minneapolis is north of Portland, when in fact it is slightly to the south. (Dec 31, 2014 4:09 PM)
