North Rustico plans bigger Christmas display this year

North Rustico is taking its reputation as P.E.I.'s Christmas town and is kicking it up a notch this year.

It's featuring some new attractions as well as the usual dozens of homes with amazing light displays.

One of its boutiques on the waterfront has been transformed into Santa's Workshop, with an area for children to write a letter to Santa, colour and do puzzles and games.

There will also be occasional visits from Santa.

"You know you want to draw people to your community because it is so beautiful," said Mayor Anne Kirk. "And I think North Rustico is beautiful no matter what season it is, especially our summer season. But you know our Christmas season is pretty special."

A Christmas baked treats shop will open for a few hours each evening, selling Christmas cookies using recipes from local residents, as well as hot chocolate and cider for those out viewing the lights.

There are also a number of concerts, plays and special events taking place throughout the season.

A tree-lighting kicked off the official 'The North Rustico Festival of Lights- Christmas in the Crick' at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
