North Shore Rescue rescues multiple people near Cypress Bowl

Long, cold winter makes mountains more dangerous, warns North Shore Rescue

North Shore Rescue responded to an emergency situation north of Cypress Bowl on Monday afternoon.

NSR spokesman Mike Danks said the first distress call came in reporting two stranded female hikers near St. Mark's summit. Soon after, another call came in about someone who had fallen off a cliff in the same general area.

"For the two stranded females, it sounded like they were really in over their heads and that they weren't really anticipating snow conditions. We want to get that message out that it's still winter conditions out there so please be prepared," said Danks.

Danks estimated the search and rescue operation involved 15 - 20 NSR volunteers and a Talon helicopter.

Around 1:30 p.m., West Vancouver Police announced the two hikers had been assisted off the trail, and that the person who fell had no injuries.

The popular Howe Sound Crest Trail is part of St. Mark's summit.
