Northumberland recognizes long-term staff

Three employees alone have provided more than a century of service to Northumberland County.

Northumberland County council and staff recognized 49 long-term employees during the county’s recent council meeting. Three of the staff members -- Kevin Jessup and Treacy Wilcox of Golden Plough Lodge long-term care home in Cobourg and Steven Forestell of Northumberland Paramedics ​-- have each reached the milestone of 35 years.

“It is always a great pleasure to be able to pause and recognize our staff,” said Northumberland County Warden Bob Crate during the meeting, which was held virtually using Zoom technology.

“They are putting our mission and vision into practice every day as they support the residents and businesses of our community.”

Northumberland County recognized employees who have achieved service milestones of between five and 35 years with the organization, as well as recent retirees. As they navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Crate said he appreciates employees’ “resilience” and how they have responded “with innovation and grit” as they adapt to new ways of working. ​

“Whether you are delivering front-line services directly to our residents and businesses or providing internal corporate support to our various teams, please know that your collective efforts are having an impact in our community,” Crate added.

Northumberland County CAO Jennifer Moore offered her congratulations and noted some of the employees were present for the celebratory portion of the meeting.

“This is an excellent opportunity to recognize all that you have done and continue to do to stimulate economic prosperity and innovation, foster thriving and inclusive communities, drive sustainable growth, and demonstrate leadership and change,” Moore said.

“These four pillars form the foundation of our strategic plan, the themes under which our priorities are identified. More than simply words on a page, these pillars capture the essence of the work we commit to doing together to fulfill the mission and vision of our organization.”

She highlighted some of the areas in which Northumberland County employees work, including health care, tourism, business and economic recovery, shelter support and food security, critical infrastructure projects and waste management services.

“You have each made essential contributions to creating new possibilities for our community in ensuring Northumberland remains strong and vibrant through this difficult period. This ceremony today is an opportunity to say thank you for the energy, passion and commitment that you have brought to your work.”

Moore read aloud the names of the employees celebrating milestones and noted they would each receive a commemorative gift.
